Visas & Immigration

All international students receive full support from the International Students Department throughout the visa and residence permit application process.

A study visa (immigration visa, D3 category) is mandatory. Students are not eligible to apply for a study residence permit without a study visa, except in cases defined under the Ordinance N255 of the Government of Georgia. 

Study Visa (Immigration, D3 Category)

According to the regulations of the Government of Georgia, all students must hold a D3 immigration (study) visa in order to apply for a study residence permit, except in cases defined under the Ordinance N255 of the Government of Georgia. 

Citizens of certain countries may enter Georgia visa-free for a limited period (90 days). In such cases, students may enter Georgia without a visa; however, they must still apply for a study visa upon arrival at the Public Service Hall. 

Check out here if you need a visa by completing the simple steps. 

Don’t forget, while applying for a study visa, a student must be enrolled at the university and provide necessary documents, such as:

  • Travel insurance covering the full visa validity period (3 months)
  • Proof of financial means (bank statement for the last 3 months or a sponsorship letter)
  • Proof of accommodation in Georgia (at least for the first week)
  • Enrollment order issued by the relevant authority
  • Rector’s Order and invitation letter

Study Residence Permit

The study residence permit is issued in Georgia by the Public Service Development Agency at the Public Service Hall. 

Students must apply at the Public Service Hall at least 40 calendar days before the expiration of their legal stay (visa or entry period).

BUDDY PROGRAM

The Buddy Program connects new international students with experienced peers to help them navigate university life, offering personal guidance, cultural insights, and support to ensure a smooth transition into their new environment. It’s a bridge to friendship, learning, and success!

An existing student is allowed to become a buddy twice a year. Information on registration and selection is announced by the International Students & Program Marketing Office.

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL
COUNSELING CENTER

The Psychological Counseling Center at Ilia State University is dedicated to supporting students with various psychosocial challenges, including anxiety, low mood, phobias, relationship issues, and stress-related conditions. Staffed by graduates of our Mental Health Master’s Program, the center provides evidence-based counseling methods under regular supervision. Open since March 2019 and led by professors Nino Makhashvili and Jana Javakhishvili, the center offers individual and group sessions, along with skill-building workshops. Consultations are available both in-person and remotely.

DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT AFFAIRS

Department of Student Affairs is dedicated to helping students fully immerse themselves in university life, offering support every step of the way. Our mission is to create an enriching and dynamic campus experience that keeps students engaged and excited about their time at ILIAUNI.

The department assists students by providing valuable information on job opportunities, internships, and both local and international scholarships or grants, all tailored to their academic interests and specializations. It serves as a resource hub to help students maximize their university experience and prepare for their future careers.

EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

Ilia State University, through its International Relations Office, has been successfully implementing the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility program (KA171) since 2015. The program provides individual mobility opportunities for students and staff at partner universities across Europe, fully funded by the European Commission.

All students, including both local and international students, are encouraged to participate in exchange programs. They have the opportunity to benefit from fully-funded Erasmus+ exchange programs at top European universities, which provide a global learning experience. Other exchange programs, such as Mevlana and partnerships with institutions outside of Europe, further expand the options for students. These initiatives not only enhance academic experiences but also contribute to the students’ global exposure and cultural understanding.

LIBRARY

Ilia State University Library is a teaching and research-oriented space that serves everyone, regardless of age, legal status, social background, cultural identity, religion, ethnicity, or citizenship.

The library’s diverse collection includes approximately 2 million monographs, textbooks, periodicals, electronic resources, and more in various languages. The library is committed to the preservation and development of its collections, ensuring their continuous growth and accessibility. Through a wide range of user-oriented services, it makes information resources easily accessible and user-friendly for all.

The library also offers an extensive collection of electronic resources. Users have access to world-renowned academic databases, indexing and abstracting services, electronic libraries, and other scholarly tools that support high-level research and quality teaching.

The Ilia State University Library serves its users through 9 reading halls, two computer resource centers, and a dedicated training space.

ARGUS

Argus is an advanced Learning Management System (LMS) developed specifically for Ilia State University students. It supports efficient academic planning and helps students stay informed and organized throughout their studies.

Argus operates in two main modes:

Course Selection
This mode allows students to register for their chosen courses. It becomes available one week before the start of each semester and remains open for two weeks after the semester begins.

Information Mode
In this mode, students can access a wide range of academic and administrative information, including:

  • Course and academic details
  • Financial and administrative records
  • Personal profile management
  • Timetables and scheduling

Upon enrollment, each student receives a university email address (name.surname@iliauni.edu.ge), which is also used to log in to the Argus system. The use of both the university email and the Argus platform is mandatory, as all official announcements, updates, and important communications are delivered through these channels.

A mobile application for the Ilia State University Argus system is also available, offering a convenient and user-friendly experience for students on the go.

UNIFOOD

Unifood is a catering facility located on both campuses of Ilia State University. Unifood offers students delicious food from European and Georgian cuisine for a rather moderate price. Here you can enjoy free wi-fi and hang out with peers while also grabbing a bite. Unifood cafeterias are located:
